iPayroll and Xero systems work together to improve
process and business efficiency

Seamless Xero integration

In 2006, iPayroll became the first integration partner (connected App) to integrate with Xero. This seamless integration works to further improve our customers payroll processes. Both systems work together to cut processing times and improve business efficiencies:

  • Connect iPayroll to Xero today to see a noticeable difference in time spent on your accounts.
  • iPayroll can send General Ledger Postings directly into Xero as authorised accounts payable invoices. Once the payments have been debited from the bank account, these invoices can be reconciled to the payments using Xero's Bank Reconciliation.
  • iPayroll can track your payroll costs to your chart of account codes, and you can also assign tracking categories to these codes.

The iPayroll to Xero Interface

Your General Ledger Postings will be automatically imported into Xero whenever you confirm a Payroll. These authorised Accounts Payable invoices will be created in Xero, and can be found under "Awaiting Payment" ready for reconciliation:

  1. Nett Pay debited: Gross by cost centre less taxes
  2. PAYE collected and held in trust
  3. iPayroll's processing fees

To get the most out of the interface, you should set up cost centres in iPayroll that correspond to your Xero chart of account codes.

You can also set up any Xero Tracking codes, additional to the chart of account codes, that you use in iPayroll. Tracking codes are like cost centres and allow your chart of accounts to remain clean with no repeating groups required. After you connect Xero to iPayroll, when you go to add your chart of account codes to iPayroll, you will see the system draws down the tracking categories to be selected within the cost centre you create.

How to connect iPayroll and Xero

It's a simple once only, two step process to set up the integration between iPayroll and Xero:

  1. Log into your iPayroll account, go to ‘Setup > Interfaces’ and select the ‘Enable’ button next to Xero.
  2. This will direct you to log in to Xero to select the relevant Xero account to connect with. The integration will then be set up and you will then be re-directed back to iPayroll.
